They are the second-largest big cat species, with males weighing up to 250 kg (550 lbs) and measuring up to 3 meters (10 feet) in length.
Lions primarily inhabit the savannas and grasslands of sub-Saharan Africa, with a small population of Asiatic lions found in the Gir Forest of India.
Lions are the most socially inclined of all big cats, living in groups called "prides." A pride typically consists of related females, their cubs, and a coalition of males.
